Who we are
A local practice, respected in its community.
We are an accountancy and taxation practice that retains a local presence and respect in the community on which the profession was based.
Historically we were part of a practice formed in Aberdeen by F A Ritson in 1909. As the business developed, parts evolved into separate business entities. Our principal, Bill Young, who has controlled the Nairn office business since 1979, withdrew from the original practice to set up a fresh firm in 2007. Other previously associated businesses share the historic Ritson name, but there is now no other connection.
Whilst providing the full range of client services, including accounting, payroll and bookkeeping support through Sage qualified trainers, the Nairn office evolved into the more unusual practice areas, in particular accountancy and taxation.
Our story
- 1909
F A Ritson forms the practice in Aberdeen, which goes on to open branches along the North East coast, including an office on Nairn High Street.
- 1979
Bill Young takes control of the Nairn office business.
- 2007
Bill Young branches out on his own to set up Ritson Young, retaining most of the staff.
- Today
The firm works from 28 High Street, Nairn, serving a local and worldwide client base.

Nairn's Business Improvement District featured Ritson Young as its Member of the Month, with Director Steven Bain talking about the firm's history on the High Street, the team's long service and what lies ahead.
We are proud of our strong local community connections and keen to keep supporting Nairn based projects, including sponsoring local youth and sport.
Covid proved quite a challenge for some of our clients, as there became a greater dependency on internet accounting for dealing with income tax and VAT.
It's a huge change and I'm not sure how many businesses and taxpayers are aware, but we will be there for all our clients to support them through this transition.
